UMBC Holds Off Towson 66-62 On Cook's Free Throws

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Ryan Cook led all scorers with 22 points and his late free throws enabled Maryland-Baltimore County to hold off Towson 66-62 Saturday night in a nonconference game.

For the Retrievers (2-5), Cook was perfect at the foul line. He sank all 10 of his free throw attempts. Six of them came in the last minute when Towson (3-4) closed within 62-59 with 28 seconds left. Jerrelle Benimon had scored eight straight Towson points to keep the Tigers close. He finished with a 13-point, 16-rebound double-double.

But Cook's free throw shooting proved decisive. He was a perfect 4-for-4 in those last 28 seconds.

Brett Roseboro and Chase Plummer both had double-doubles for UMBC. Roseboro scored 19 points on 9-for-11 shooting and took 10 rebounds. Plummer scored 11 points and grabbed 11 boards.

For Towson, guard Mike Burwell scored 14 points and Jerome Hairston added 14 more.
