Ravens Linebacker Terrell Suggs Complies With Court Order, Turns In Guns

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs complies with a court order to turn in his guns.

Pat Warren has more on what led to the order and the possible consequences.

A Baltimore County judge has issued a temporary protective order against Suggs at the order of his girlfriend, Candace Williams. It orders the NFL player to surrender seven shotguns, handguns and rifles, including an AK-47.

Under a Maryland law signed in 2009, judges can order temporary surrender of firearms if there's potential for violence.

Will Hefrich of Duffy's Gun Room told WJZ it's a precaution.

"[We] can store them. We do it here at Duffy's as a service," said Hefrich, "[Guns] can be held by an attorney, several options there, but they just can't be in possession of them in that time period when they have a restraining order against them."

Williams, the mother of Sugg's two children, alleged that in November she saw her boyfriend in a house other than where he told her he'd be. She went to the door and knocked.

According to Williams, Suggs opened the door and wrestled her outside. She claims she hit him and tried to flee in her car, but he opened the driver's door and jumped into her vehicle.

"He began punching my neck and threw me out of the car," she said, "My hand was stuck in the seatbelt, and he dragged me at a high rate of speed. I finally freed myself and fell in the road."

Williams said the couple's children were in the car at the time.

In 2009, she accused Suggs of kicking her in the face and breaking her nose.

"As bad as I want to talk about it right now, I just can't. When I'm able to do it, you guys can ask a million and one questions about it and I'll be glad to answer them for you," the linebacker told reporters in 2009.

The 2009 case was later dismissed.

No allegations involving a weapon have been made against Suggs.

In a statement about this recent conflict, Suggs said the personal issues have been addressed in a responsible and adult manner and have been resolved, and he and Williams will move forward as a happy family.
