TOWSON, Md. (AP) — A former congressional candidate from Maryland is facing charges that she illegally voted in the state in prior elections.

State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt announced the charge Thursday against Wendy Rosen, who was the Democratic nominee this year for Maryland’s First Congressional District.

Rosen, 58, dropped out of the race in September after the state party said she had voted in both Maryland and Florida in the 2006 general election and in the 2008 presidential primaries. She cited “personal issues” in announcing her departure from the race. Court documents allege that Rosen voted in Baltimore County despite “having abandoned her legal domicile.”

Republican Congressman Andy Harris went on to win the election.

A lawyer for Rosen didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday.
