FREDERICK CITY, Md. (WJZ)–Teen-on-teen violence: a 16-year-old boy is in serious condition after being shot by a 17-year-old boy.

It happened Wednesday at 4:38 p.m. in Frederick.  Police officers were called to a home in the 300-block of Hillcrest Drive for reports of shots fired.

There they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the chest.  He was taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives determined the 16-year-old got into an altercation with a 17-year-old boy in the front yard of the gunman’s home. During the altercation, the 17-year-old suspect produced a small caliber handgun and threatened to shoot the victim.

At some point, the gun went off, shooting the victim in the chest.

The 17-year-old suspect is in custody. He will be charged as an adult for reckless endangerment and discharge of a weapon in the city. Other charges are still being determined.
