Baltimore Man Who Collected Disability Benefits Sentenced

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A man who collected Social Security disability benefits while working for the agency has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Christopher George Perry, 50, of Baltimore was also ordered under three years of supervised release at sentencing Thursday.

According to evidence presented at trial, Perry began receiving Social Security long-term disability benefits in 1996. He also received Medicare benefits as a result of his disability and a low-income subsidy for prescription drugs.

Prosecutors say Perry went back to work in 1996 and in 2007, got a job as benefits authorizer with SSA, where he worked on cases pertaining to long-term disability benefits.

Prosecutors say Perry was overpaid more than $150,000 in benefits.
