Deer Hunt Reopens, Except In Western Md.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Hunters who didn't fill their tags during Maryland's two-week firearm deer season are getting another chance.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the season reopens Friday through Saturday in areas east of the Washington County town of Clear Spring.

The extended season is aimed at reducing the number of deer in more heavily populated areas that are more prone to crop and garden damage and car-deer collisions.

Hunters killed about 36,000 deer statewide during the regular firearm season in late November and early December. That was down about 13 percent from a year earlier.
