BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Purple pride takes over Baltimore. The entire city is feeling Ravens playoff fever during one of the biggest Purple Fridays ever.
Meghan McCorkell has more on the purple pep rally.
If there was any doubt the city is painted purple, take a look at City Hall. All of the lights have been changed to purple as the entire city cheers on the Ravens.
From the Power Plant to the parking lot and even the produce section, playoff pandemonium is spreading across the city.
“Dancing and scanning and dancing and scanning,” sang a checkout lady.
“Let’s go, Ravens!” Ravens cheerleaders chanted.
“Cheering for the Ravens all day long,” said one young fan.
Dan Knott has one of the best rides in the house, a purple scooter.
“I got Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Ed Reed, Matt Stover signed it,” said Knott.
Ravens fever is even more contagious during the first game of the postseason.
“It means so much for Baltimore’s history and our history with the Colts. We really got to beat them,” said Baltimore resident Alex Hemphill.
“I can’t wait. I’m excited,” a fan said.
And with Ray Lewis’ retirement looming, the stakes are a lot higher.
“We want to do it for Ray, but Ray wants to do it for Baltimore. He’s always wanted this for the fans,” a fan said.
“Before we knew that he was retiring, it was a big game and now it’s even bigger,” said Jimmy Sparenberg of Pasadena.
Ravens fans are feeling confident.
“Honestly, the Ravens are going to smoke ‘em,” said one fan.
And it’s not just humans getting in on the purple pride!
Rocco the dog is a Ravens fan with purple hair.
At the National Aquarium, Margaret the macaw took a bite out of the Indianapolis Colts and the fish got a show when a Ray Lewis fan made a grand entrance underwater!
Now fans are waiting to see Lewis’ dance in person, perhaps for the final time in Baltimore.
“It’s going to be wild and crazy because it might be the last time we see him,” said a Ravens superfan called Captain Defense.
“They’re going to blow the roof off that stadium–if they had a roof. They don’t have a roof,” said Mike Dorsey of Pasadena.
Even Governor Martin O’Malley is in on the action. We hear the governor’s mansion in Annapolis is now lit up purple.
