Hot Shooting Lifts Howard Over Coppin State 70-60

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Mike Phillips had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead Howard University to a 70-60 victory over Coppin State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

Prince Okoroh had 13 points and eight rebounds, Samuel Frazier scored 13 and Brandon Ford 10 for the Bison (4-12, 1-1), who snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory.

Troy Franklin led the Eagles (3-13, 0-1) with 24 points, and Michael Murray had 11. Coppin State has lost four in a row.

The Bison shot 51.2 percent from the field (22 of 43) to the Eagles' 36.1 percent (22 of 61)

Howard also held a 39-29 edge in rebounding and shot 24 of 31 from the foul line to Coppin State's 5 of 14.

The Eagles stayed close by making 11 of 35 from 3-point range to the Bison's 2 of 4.
