MACON, Ga. (AP) — Attorneys for a man accused of killing Mercer University law school graduate Lauren Giddings say prosecutors have yet to hand over some pieces of evidence.

The lawyers for Stephen McDaniel are asking for more time to prepare pretrial motions, partly because they’re still awaiting the evidence. Among the items are test results from strands of hair found on Giddings’ torso.

McDaniel is charged with the June 2011 slaying and dismemberment of 27-year-old Giddings, who was from Laurel, Md.

McDaniel has pleaded not guilty.

Franklin Hogue, one of McDaniel’s attorneys, tells The Telegraph that evidence prosecutors handed over did not include lab reports of testing done on strands of hair. The hairs were found during Giddings’ autopsy and, later, in a refrigerator that detectives seized from the apartment beneath hers.
