Ex-Postal Worker Sentenced For Mail Theft

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A former postal service employee has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for stealing gift cards from the mail.

Fifty-seven-year-old Deborah Jean Gibson of Windsor Mill was also ordered to pay more than $1,000 in restitution at sentencing Friday.

According to a plea agreement, Gibson was a mail processing clerk at the Linthicum incoming mail facility. After receiving complaints from customers about gift cards not being delivered, postal inspectors videotaped Gibson at her machine.

Prosecutors say Gibson was seen opening greeting cards, stealing gift cards and putting the mail in her purse.
