ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Supporters of increasing Maryland’s minimum wage want to raise it from $7.25 to $10 an hour by 2015.

Sen. Rob Garagiola, D-Montgomery, and Delegate Aisha Braveboy, D-Prince George’s, are sponsoring legislation. They joined supporters Tuesday in Annapolis.

Supporters rallied outside the Maryland State House, holding signs that read: “we can’t survive on $7.25″ and chanting “raise the wage.”

Garagiola says 19 states and the District of Columbia have a higher minimum wage than Maryland, which last raised the minimum wage in 2005.

The measure also would raise the minimum wage for tipped workers from 50 percent to 70 percent of the full minimum wage. It also would adjust the minimum wage annually with the cost of living.
