Thousands Brave Chilly Temps For 17th Annual Polar Bear Plunge

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Some brave souls took an icy plunge into the Chesapeake Bay to support Special Olympics Maryland.

Maryland State Police held their 17th annual Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday to raise money for the charity. A minimum of $50 in pledges was required for each participant to take the plunge at Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis. The event was free for spectators.

The plunge draws thousands of people each year.
