Teen Dead In Edgewood Double Shooting

EDGEWOOD, Md. (WJZ) --Harford County sheriff deputies are on the lookout for the people who fired several shots, severely injuring one teenager and killing another.

Rochelle Ritchie has the latest on the investigation.

Teryn Cash has only lived in the apartments in Edgewood near Cunion Recreational Park for less than a year. And already she's noticing too much police activity.

"It's been nuts," Cash said. "It's the second shooting they've had here."

On Friday, the police presence has increased after Harford County sheriff deputies responded to a 911 call for help when shots could be heard throughout the area.

"I was so worried because it was so close to the house," said Shelly, resident.

"I pulled my oldest daughter down. They have bunk beds, and I made my daughters lay with me on the floor," Cash said.

Officials say Michael Kearins, 17, and Christopher Cousins, 18, were walking through Cunion Park when they were shot.

"Mr. Cousins was conscious and was shot multiple times. Mr. Kearins was also shot but unconscious," said Ed Hopkins, Harford Co. Sheriff's Office.

Kearins was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Cousins is expected to survive.

"That makes me worried because I'm only 18 myself," Shelly said.

Police are not sure if this was a random shooting or if the boys were targeted

"We know, based on what victims said on the scene, they were completely surprised. They weren't expecting this to happen," Hopkins said.

Investigators say the teens were in the park area to meet someone when the shooting occurred.  Deputies say they were approached by several suspects who shot both teens multiple times.
