Energy Company Sues Md. Over Stalled Gas Compressor
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The energy company Dominion Resources is suing the Maryland Department of the Environment over a decision blocking construction of a natural gas compressor station in Myersville.
The Frederick News-Post reported Wednesday that the company's Dominion Transmission unit has asked the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington to review the state's failure to act on its application for an air quality permit.
State regulators say their hands are tied because town officials haven't approved a zoning change for the facility. The company is suing the town over that issue in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.
The Richmond, Va.-based company says the compressor is needed to boost the flow of gas during peak demand periods.
Town officials say the project near Interstate 70 would pose a risk to public health.
