Md. Delegate Clagett Running For Frederick Mayor

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- State Delegate Galen Clagett says he's running for mayor of Frederick.

The 70-year-old Democrat told The Frederick News-Post Thursday that he'll run for the mayoral seat currently held by Republican Randy McClement.

McClement hasn't said whether he'll seek re-election.

Democratic Alderwoman Karen Young announced her candidacy for mayor last month. The primary election is Sept. 10. The general election is Nov. 5.

Clagett is midway through his third term in the House of Delegates. He said in 2011 that he wouldn't seek a fourth term.

Clagett heads the Frederick-based property-management firm Clagett Enterprises. He previously worked as a public school teacher and administrator.
