Anne Arundel County Bernese Mountain Puppy Heads To Westminster Dog Show

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A local dog from Anne Arundel County is headed to the Big Apple. Blanket Rocketship is competing in this week's Westminster Dog Show.

Tim Williams has more.

As he sits patiently waiting for his last minute preps, Blanket Rocketship is ready to take the Westminster Dog Show by storm.

"He likes to look good," said David and Elicia Brand-Leudemann, Blanket Rocketship's owners. "We make sure that he has a lot of fun as a dog the day before because he's not allowed to sniff any dogs or play with any dogs at the show. So today is his day really to be beautified."

At 18 months old, this beautiful, fluffy, 93-pound Bernese Mountain dog will be entered in the working dog group.

Blanket has many awards but is young and still earning his credentials--all the more reason this trip to New York is impressive. It is the first time Westminster has allowed a non-champion to compete.

"So we are super excited to be there. And look, it's a long shot that he'll win. It's possible. Anything's possible but we are so excited just to be at Westminster. I mean, it's the biggest dog show in the world," Elicia said.

Named by his three human brothers and sisters, Blanket Rocketship is ready to walk the green carpet of Westminster. While following the footsteps of previous Maryland dogs, he is the only entry this year from Anne Arundel County. His potential prizes?

"Ribbons, or maybe prestige because there will be a lot of ladies who will want to meet Mr. Blanket Rocketship and have a lot of puppies," Elicia said.

After all, it is Valentine's week.
