Teen Fatally Stabbed After Ravens Victory Parade Laid To Rest

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Gone too soon. A teen stabbed during the Ravens Super Bowl celebration is laid to rest and the killers remain on the loose.

Rochelle Ritchie has the latest on the search for the person who murdered the 15-year-old boy.

Police tell WJZ they have some pretty solid leads but still no arrests.

Still pictures from a Baltimore City police camera on the corner of Howard and Fayette caught the final moments of life for 15-year-old Deontae Smith.

"It was unnecessary for a fight to break out and he got stabbed it was so unnecessary," said Andrea Gilmore.

The person in purple is the primary suspect in his murder.

"What we know thus far is that it is an isolated incident. The victims knew their attackers and we believe this stemmed from a dispute," said Baltimore Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Smith's funeral Friday afternoon brought broken hearts to New Antioch Church to say goodbye. Family and dozens of his fellow students from Patterson High School are still asking themselves why.

"Nobody deserves to die and he definitely didn't deserve it," said Cieandre Fraink.

"Senseless, senseless, the things that are going on with our young people today," Sylvia Watson said.

On Feb. 5, as Baltimore City celebrated the Ravens' Super Bowl win, police say Smith and several other people got into a fight and he was stabbed several times. He had a heart attack on the way to the hospital and died.

The city's CitiWatch camera network is the most important source police have right now to track down his killer.

"Homicide detectives are reviewing that footage and we have some optimistic leads," Guglielmi said.

The fight happened in the middle of the afternoon with thousands in the downtown area--including police. But even that didn't stop the brutal attack.

"It was really awful to hear that after coming from this great celebration," a woman said.

Many are hoping those who recognize the person in purple believed to be responsible will not stand by and let him get away with murder.

Two other people were also stabbed during the attack and survived.
