OVERLEA, Md. (WJZ/AP) — Traffic is still heavy on the Inner Loop of I-695 after a fatal accident involving a tractor trailer and a pickup truck.

Police say the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. near the Belair Road exit on eastbound Interstate 695.

Authorities say the tractor trailer hit Darreck Thomas Hodge who was changing the rear driver’s side tire on the shoulder of the highway. Hodge was killed, and two people inside the pickup truck — a 17-year-old girl and 1-year-old girl — were injured.  The teen was transported to Shock Trauma and the infant was transported to Johns Hopkins both with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the tractor trailer was driver by Timothy Earl Chandler. They are not clear why he drifted off the road.
