Police Did Not Have Permission To Use Site Of Trainee Shooting

BALTIMORE (AP/WJZ) -- Baltimore police say the department did not have permission to conduct training exercises at the facility where a trainee was shot in the head.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Wednesday that the department learned about the lack of permission shortly after the trainee was shot and critically injured on Feb. 12.

The accident occurred at the former Rosewood Center in Owings Mills.

Guglielmi says the department professional standards bureau is conducting a training policy investigation. Police are trying to find out who took the class to the Rosewood Center and why.

Sources say the officer who pulled the trigger mistook his service weapon for a training gun.
