ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Baltimore city officials plan to attend a rally in Annapolis to show support for a plan to renovate or rebuild up to 65 city schools.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore City Schools CEO Andres Alonso are scheduled to speak at the rally Monday night.
The proposal would create a block grant each year in the state budget for the city’s schools, and the city would be able to leverage that to borrow more money.
Supporters say it would create more than $1 billion to remodel schools. Legislation has been filed in Annapolis to create the program.
