2 State Troopers Hurt When Cruiser Is Hit By Drunk Driver On I-95

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) –Two Maryland State troopers are recovering from non life threatening injuries after their patrol car was struck by a drunk driver.

Police say shortly after midnight, Tfc. Manuel Moreno and Tpr. John Cabrera were investigating a crash on northbound Interstate 95 in the area of Sandy Springs Road in Prince George's County.

After establishing a flare pattern warning oncoming traffic, both troopers returned to their marked Maryland State Police patrol vehicle with its emergency equipment activated.

While the troopers were completing reports, a 2001 Pontiac Sunbird—driven by 48-year-old Arcenia D. Macklin, of Laurel—drove through the flares and struck the patrol unit in the rear.

Moreno and Cabrera were taken to Prince George's Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Macklin refused medical treatment at the scene. She was taken into custody and later charged with driving under the influence.

Moreno, 42, is a four-year veteran and Cabrera, 34, is a three-year veteran of the College Park Barrack.
