Orioles' Markakis Out A Few Days With Neck Spasms

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) -- Baltimore Orioles right fielder Nick Markakis says the neck spasms he is having aren't a concern.

Markakis was scratched from Sunday's game and said Tuesday morning that he would take his recovery slowly and expected to be able to play in a few days. He missed substantial portions of last season after suffering a broken bone in his hand and a fractured thumb.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said before Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays that he would not play Markakis against Spain on Wednesday. Showalter added that the right fielder could have played had this been the regular season.

Markakis played 104 games last year after averaging 160 the previous five seasons.
