Allegany Honors Those Who Battled Rash Of Fires

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — The Allegany County Commissioners are honoring 20 local fire companies for battling eight house fires during a four-day period in late January.

Board President Michael McKay says the public ceremony Thursday afternoon recognizes their service during difficult circumstances and poor weather conditions.

One of the fires injured a volunteer firefighter. Another injured two occupants of the burned residence.

The fires were scattered throughout the county. There has been no indication from fire investigators that they were connected.
