COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Tiwian Kendley scored 19 points as Eleanor Roosevelt defeated Magruder 61-56 in the Class 4A state title game Saturday night.
Roosevelt (27-1) avenged a 39-36 loss to Magruder in last year’s state title game. This was Roosevelt’s second state title in school history.
The Raiders never trailed, but Kendley’s 19 points proved crucial. He made 9 of 13 free throws while his teammates hit only 7 of 15.
Magruder (24-3) lived by the outside shot in this game. The Colonels kept taking 3-pointers — going 12 for 37 overall — and never made it to the free-throw line while Roosevelt got 16 points there.
Jesse Ason and Trevor Evans both scored 10 for Roosevelt, and Malachi Alexander helped with seven points and 16 rebounds.
JJ Epps led Magruder with 14 points, and Justin Witmer added 11.
