Dereck opened the interview by saying that 30 years later the famous "missed shot" was actually a pass.

Steve asked Dereck about the 30 for 30 which ESPN made about that National Championship team led by legendary coach Jim Valvano. Dereck said that he received many messages from friends about how moved they were, and how it was more than a sports film.

Ed asked Dereck about the late Lorenzo Charles who Ed went to high school with and what kind of teammate he was. Dereck said he was a guy you could always go to and trust and he was an amazing teammate who will be missed along with others who they lost from that team.

Steve asked Dereck for his thoughts on Maryland and the job Mark Turgeon is doing in college park. Dereck said that he thinks Mark has done a terrific job but their out of conference schedule played them out of the tournament. Dereck than expanded on how recruiting changes for Maryland and how they now have to sell a kid from Maryland on playing games in the mid-west with them joining the Big Ten.
