GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal car crash in Gaithersburg.

Police say it happened around 1 a.m. Sunday after the driver of a gray pick-up truck, who had been previously spotted as driving erratically, drove off Route 108 and struck a tree.

The driver, identified as 49-year-old Jose Antonio Ayala of Gaithersburg, died at the scene. His family said he was last seen Saturday evening when he left the house for groceries. His family also says Ayala was a diabetic and insulin dependent.
