Anne Arundel Co.'s Top Firefighter To Retire May 1

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel's top firefighter will retire May 1 after 35 years with the department.

The Capital of Annapolis reports county officials announced Fire Chief John Robert Ray's retirement Friday.

Ray was appointed fire chief in July 2008 and led a staff of more than 1,700. He did not give a reason for his retirement but said in a statement that he looks forward to spending more time with his family.
