Fort Detrick Reopening Gate, Citing Backups
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Officials at Fort Detrick in Frederick say they're reopening an entrance gate that was closed for budgetary reasons just one week ago.
The gate on Opossumtown Pike reopens Monday for limited hours to ease traffic congestion.
The installation says the gate will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday for both inbound and outbound traffic.
It will be open for outbound traffic only on Monday through Friday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
When Fort Detrick closed the gate April 1, a spokeswoman said the move could save up to $10,000 a week. She said a hiring freeze at Fort Detrick had made it difficult to staff all four gates.
