Steve Davis: Orioles Need Some 'O'
By no means is it panic time. A 3 game losing streak is hardly a red flag. They had several of those last year and still went to the playoffs.
However, I do think they have an issue with their bench, and that has been from day one.
Steve Pearce is 0-10 with 5 strikeouts. This is not a major surprise. He's a 4A player, somebody you call up in a pinch, but not someone you start the year with as one of your designated hitters.
Ryan Flaherty was acceptable last year, but I am just not convinced he's on the roster of a team with aspirations of going to the playoffs. He can help you from time to time but you want more out of him than you got last year.
Flaherty and Pearce are a combined 0-24 with 11 K's. The DH slot for the O's is 1-23. You're the DH, your job is to hit. 1-23 is a joke.
I am still bullish on the Birds, but they might want to upgrade the bench.
