Pa. Man Sentenced To 4 Years In Md. DUI Death

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to four years in prison in a DUI crash that killed a man and injured a woman and a toddler.

Stephen James Bonafede, 27, of Mountville, Pa., was sentenced Wednesday. According to the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, in January, he had entered Alford pleas to one count negligent manslaughter and two counts of causing life threatening injuries while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Prosecutors say Bonafede was traveling about 80 mph in Williamsport when he crossed the center line and hit a car driven by Denise Baez, 22, of Hagerstown on July 12. A passenger in Baez’ car, Luis Enrique Salazar-Reyna, was fatally injured.

Baez and her 3-year-old son were hospitalized.

Prosecutors say Bonafede had a blood alcohol level of 0.17 percent.
