Pedestrian Killed In Joppa

JOPPA, Md. (WJZ) -- An investigation is underway after a pedestrian is hit by a car and killed in Joppa.

Police say Jack Watson, 61, was walking on Philadelphia Road east of MD Route 152 around 8 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a Volkswagen Beetle driven by Robert Sunderhaus, 32.

Police say Watson was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing. The area of roadway is not illuminated by street lights.

Watson was found unresponsive at the scene and transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where he died.

While speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in this investigation, preliminary indications are the pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol.

The Harford County State's Attorney's Office will be consulted to determine if charges will be filed.
