Supporters Of Immigration Reform To Rally In D.C.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Supporters of comprehensive immigration reform are planning a rally outside the Capitol as Congress works on a bill that would put 11 million immigrants in the United States illegally on a path to citizenship.

Organizers say they expect tens of thousands of people from more than 30 states to participate in the rally Wednesday afternoon. NAACP President Benjamin Jealous will deliver the keynote address.

In addition to establishing a path to citizenship, the bill being crafted by senators from both parties would secure the border and establish new visa programs for high- and low-skilled foreign workers.

Organizers say immigrant families will speak at the rally "about how our broken system has devastated their families." The rally comes as more people living in the country illegally are sharing their stories.
