Reporting Ron Matz
CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—It’s prom season right now and gowns can be expensive. Thousands of young women all around Baltimore are trying to find just the right dress.
Ron Matz reports they’re getting some help from a Catonsville businesswoman who’s giving back to the community.
It’s time to pick just the right prom gown.
Julie Felder owns the JuleBox Hair Spa in Catonsville. She’s giving them away. It’s the third year for her Prom Gown Bazaar.
“The young ladies come in and they can get one free gown. We have shoes that have been donated, and we have a lot of brand new gowns this year,” Felder said.
The JuleBox staff can’t wait for Saturday.
“I’m going to help these young ladies fit into a gown that fits their personality and makes them feel great. The gowns are all donated by people in the community and our clients. They’re donated from all over,” said Jasmine Simpson, JuleBox stylist.
There are gowns and much more.
“I saw in Virginia that someone had done this and I thought it would be wonderful so I said ‘I’m going to try it.’ People came out. They donated. They gave back, and it’s just been awesome,” Felder said.
The JuleBox gave away about 80 prom gowns last year. It’s an emotional day for everyone.
“It’s a great feeling,” Simpson said. “It’s actually emotional. It’s touching when you see that we’re helping young lives, so it’s great.”
“I’m excited and nervous. It’s a great feeling to give back. The young ladies are crying. We’re crying. The parents are crying. It’s lovely. It’s a great day,” Felder said.
It’s a picture perfect day for everyone.
“I think it’s absolutely amazing. It’s good to know that as a young girl I can help other young girls fulfill what they want for prom,” said Janae Faison, JuleBox.
JuleBox is located on Frederick Road in Catonsville. Saturday’s prom dress giveaway runs from 8 a.m. til 3 p.m.
