Md. Hispanic Leaders To Speak On Immigration Bill

LANGLEY PARK, Md. (AP) -- Immigrant leaders in Maryland are expected to speak out as the Senate introduces its new bipartisan immigration bill.

Participants in the community event on Wednesday will describe how they would be personally affected by the legislation.

The community speak-out is scheduled for Wednesday at noon at the CASA Multicultural Center in Langley Park.

Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro, union leaders and representatives from the immigrant community are scheduled to attend.

The legislation would install a path to citizenship for 11 million immigrants in the country illegally. It would also require a tough new focus on border security, instituting a new requirement for all employers to check the legal status of their workers.
