TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) — What was a blank wall at one local mall has become a space to showcase art. It’s part of a program designed to bring art to people who normally wouldn’t visit galleries.

Gigi Barnett introduces us to the artist.

Towson Town Center shoppers take pictures of it.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said one shopper.

Or just stop and stare.

Once they get up close, everything comes together.

“I like it,” said a shopper.

It’s called “The Loop,” and is a multi-dimensional mural that popped up on the wall at Towson Town Center.

It’s the brainchild of artist and Towson professor Amanda Burnham. She says it’s abstract art designed to remind the viewer of Towson and is part of a program that takes art out of galleries and into common places.

“I have never seen so much, gotten so much feedback and had so much response, especially from people I normally wouldn’t see at a gallery opening or something and it’s really great,” said Burnham.

Burnham finished the wall art in about three days–and as fast as it went up, it could go back down again. The mall says it will be up for the next six weeks but after that, it goes down for good.

“It’s kind of freeing to do something and just have it be about the experience of doing it,” Burnham said.

The mall says it may keep the wall art up longer because it’s received good responses from shoppers.
