Md. National Guard Getting New LaPlata Facility
LaPLATA, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland National Guard is breaking ground for a new facility in LaPlata.
The event Wednesday marks the start of construction of a new home for the 253rd Engineer Company.
The nearly 29,000-square-foot readiness center will replace a facility built in 1952.
It will sit on 20 acres at the intersection of Hawthorn Drive and Rose Hill Road.
The center will include classrooms, an assembly hall, library, recruitment office and a physical fitness area.
