GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police are identifying a Gaithersburg man who died after officers used electronic stun guns to subdue him.

Police identified the man Tuesday as Anthony Howard, 51. Officers responded Friday evening after a 911 caller reported a man was yelling profanities, striking a parked truck with rocks and crawling on other vehicles.

The officers used their stun guns after police say Howard refused to leave the front porch of a home, where he used a child’s scooter to strike the front door. They say he was not stopped by pepper spray.

After police handcuffed Howard, they saw that he wasn’t breathing and performed CPR, but he died at an area hospital.

The five officers involved were placed on routine administrative leave. The cause of Howard’s death remains unclear.
