Md. Military Museum Marks Hairball Awareness Day
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- The National Museum of Health and Medicine is marking National Hairball Awareness Day with a special program.
The event Saturday includes a display of one of the museum's three human hairballs.
Hairballs are usually associated with cats and cows but they sometimes form in the stomachs of people.
The museum says they most often occur in children and young women with mental disorders that cause them to eat their own hair or other nonfood items.
