J Michael Talks About Jason Collins Coming Out

J Michael Covers The Wizards for Comcast Sportsnet, he joined Bob & Steve to talk about the Jason Collins situation.

J Michael said that Jason Collins agent called the Wizards to let them know that he was coming out. Apparently Collins came very close to coming out during the season but he didn't want it to be a distraction to the team.

Steve asked J Michel about if there were any off the record comments made about being opposed to Collins coming out. J Michel said he did receive an off the record comment from a player about being uneasy around a gay teammate, but he obviously could not name the player.

Bob asked J Michel about what if Collins doesn't find a contract will people then assume it's because no team wants him because he is gay. J Michel said people who aren't familiar with basketball may have that opinion but people who follow the game will know Jason Collins is a journeyman back-up and those guys fade out of the game regularly. J then said that Collins will most likely be gone from Washington because of his on-court play not his sexual orientation.

Steve said he believes this is not a Jackie Robinson moment because Jason Collins is not a household name, and that a player like that will need to come out before it's Jackie Robinson-esque.
