HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — The Maryland Symphony Orchestra has named its new executive director.

Sixty-two-year-old Michael Jonnes led the Springfield, Mass. Symphony Orchestra for 15 years. He will start his new job on Monday.

Jonnes retired from the Springfield Symphony last year. He has also been executive director for the Jackson, Tenn., Symphony Orchestra and the Mid-Atlantic Chamber Orchestra, which was based in Washington.

The Herald-Mail reports that the executive director oversees daily operations and the office staff of about five to six people, and works with the music director on programming.

Jonnes succeeds Tamara Nuzzaci Park, who is leaving to set up a consulting business to help music festivals.
