Daughter, 14, And Boyfriend, 19, Charged In Stabbing Death Of Ellicott City Man

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- Tragedy strikes Howard County. A prominent real estate agent--stabbed to death in his own home.

Now--his 14-year-old daughter and her boyfriend are under arrest.

Meghan McCorkell has more on the plot to kill.

Investigators believe the two teens had been planning the horrifying attack for months.

It was around 4:20 a.m. Friday; a frantic 911 call from a home on Winding Ross Way in Ellicott City.

When police arrived, they found 58-year-old Dennis Lane dead in his bed, stabbed multiple times. In a bedroom nearby--his 14-year-old daughter, Morgan Arnold, and her 19-year-old boyfriend, Jason Bulmer.

Police say Bulmer was covered in blood.

"It's our detectives understanding that the two have conspired over the last two months, exchanging electronic communication about planning to kill Mr. Lane," said Sherry Llewellyn, Howard County Police.

Investigators say the daughter left a sliding glass door open at the house to let the boyfriend sneak inside. Once inside, police say Arnold encouraged Bulmer to stab her father.

Another adult in the house called for help.

"I don't even have words for it," said Jessie Newburn.

She's been friends with Dennis Lane for 20 years.

Lane wrote a popular Howard County blog with hundreds of readers and hosted a podcast. Now friends are coming to terms with his violent death.

"It's just tragic. There's a part of me that just wants to honor his life, and to be able to know the story of his death," Newburn said. "But there's another part of me that doesn't want to know the details."

The details about why the teen couple turned to violence--something police want to know too.

Detectives say the teenagers planned to run away together after killing Lane.

Jason Bulmer, 19, and Morgan Arnold, 14, are charged as adults with first and second degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
