Fort Detrick Getting New Garrison Commander

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Fort Detrick is welcoming a new garrison commander to the Army installation in Frederick.

Col. Steven Middlecamp assumes command Wednesday. He succeeds Col. Allan Darden, who has held the position since July 2011.

The garrison commander is an administrator who oversees operational aspects of the post.

Middlecamp's last assignment was Northern Regional Medical Command Patient Administration Consultant at Fort Belvoir, Va.

Darden's new assignment is director of human resources for the Army Medical Department in the Washington-based Office of the Army Surgeon General.

Fort Detrick includes the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases. It is also the home of the Interagency Biodefense Campus, a collection of high-security, civilian biological research laboratories.
