Kolbe's Recap 05-15-13

The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't miss a chance to jump out to an early series lead against the Ottawa Senators. The Penguins rattled goalie Craig Anderson and scored on him 4 times. Penguins star Evgeni Malkin tallied a goal and an assist to keep his hot streak alive. Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun got his 3rd straight win since replacing starter Marc-Andre Fleury in the playoffs.

The defending Stanley Cup champions won their 5th straight game of these playoffs by defeating the Sharks 2-0. Jonathan Quick has returned to his form from the championship run of last year, he made 35 saves for a shutout. Sharks goalie Antti Niemi only faced 20 shots but two beat him and the Sharks stars could not find the back of the net.

On Tap for Tonight:

And tonight the Detroit Red Wings start their series against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks went 4-0-0 against the Red Wings in the regular season and will look to continue winning tonight. Corey Crawford has been great in goal and the Hawks stars have shined bright, except for captain Jonathan Toews. For the Red Wings their star players Henrik Zetteburg, and Pavel Datsyuk played well against Anaheim but they'll need a better effort from goalie Jimmy Howard if they are to knock off the top-seeded Blackhawks.
