Kolbe's Recap 05-16-13

Try as they might the Detroit Red Wings could not slow down the President's Trophy winning Chicago Blackhawks. Through 1 period of play the game was tied at 1 and the Wings were right with the Blackhawks. The 2nd period saw the Blackhawks out shoot the Red Wings 17-5 but Wings goalie Jimmy Howard stood on his head to keep the game knotted at 1. The floodgates opened on the Wings in the 3rd as the Blackhawks continued the onslaught and over powered the Wings en route to a 4-1 victory and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 of this series is this Saturday May 18th at 1 PM.

On Tap for Tonight:

Tonight we will see the last of the conference semi-final series begin. The New York Rangers will travel to TD Bank Garden in Boston to take on the Bruins. Henrik Lundqvist will try to continue his hot streak as he had 2 shutouts in games 6 and 7 to move the Rangers forward in the playoffs. The Rangers will be looking for big off-season acquisition Rick Nash to heat up in round 2 as he was ice cold against the Capitals in round 1. The Bruins will be hoping that Tuukka Rask can improve his play from round 1, while also hoping Tyler Seguin can put the puck in the net.

Also tonight the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings will get back on the ice for game 2. The LA Kings will hope for goalie Jonathan Quick to lead them to a 2 game lead in the series with another rock solid performance. For the Sharks they need their stars to shine bright and will be hoping for better performances from likes of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, and Logan Couture. The Sharks will also be expecting a better performance from goalie Antti Niemi who is a Vezina Trophy finalist.
