First Fiat Cars Arrive At Port of Baltimore

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The first Fiat cars have arrived at the Port of Baltimore under an exclusive deal with the Italian automaker.

The Daily Record of Baltimore reports that the first 2,500 Fiat 500L cars were unloaded at the port on Friday.

The Maryland Port Administration expects the car shipments, which are supposed to increase to more than 30,000 over the next year, to create 80 jobs at the port and another 140 indirect positions down the supply chain.

The cars are coming from the automaker's assembly plant in Serbia and are not being shipped to another East Coast port.
