Suspect Arrested For Shooting Baltimore Man & Killing His 1-Year-Old Son

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A man is behind bars for opening fire on a father and his one-year-old child in South Baltimore. Police have now released the identity of the suspect of a crime that's shaking the community.

Derek Valcourt reports people in Cherry Hill are all too familiar with crime, but this incident has people angry and talking.

Police say 20-year-old Eddie Tarver is one of two or three suspects who fired multiple shots into this red Chevy Friday night as it was pulling out of apartment complex in one of Baltimore's toughest neighborhoods, Cherry Hill.

"This was not a random occurrence," said Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts.

Police believe the gunmen were trying to kill the driver of the car, 22-year-old Rashaw Scott, who is now in critical condition after he was shot multiple times.

But the gunman did succeed in killing Scott's one-year-old son, Carter, who was in the back passenger's seat and rushed to the hospital, where he died.

"When I heard he was going to the hospital, I was like, 'Oh, I hope that baby make it.' But oh, I feel sorry," said one resident.

Responding officers saw two to three suspects fleeing the scene. Police were able to catch Eddie Tarver, but so far, there is no word on why the men were trying to kill the boy's father.

"Of course they was aiming for the dad. If they say all the guys circled the car so of course they was aiming for him, so he knew he was in trouble," said resident Dontay Weddington.

Weddington, a father of three, was among many outraged by the shooting of a 1-year-old at his Cherry Hill neighborhood.

"Me, personally, if I know I might be in some shady stuff or in trouble or something, I wouldn't keep my kids around me a lot," said Weddington.

"People don't have no morals no more. They killing kids for no reason," he said.

"People need to stop and think before they do whatever it is they do out here because kids don't have nothing to do with whatever it is that go on out here," said one resident.

Some of the relatives of the victims of the shooting refused to speak with WJZ. Police say the search for other suspects continues.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder.
