Woman On Motor Scooter Struck, Killed In Howard County

ELKRIDGE, Md. (WJZ)—Howard County police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred Thursday morning in Elkridge.

Police were called around 6:10 a.m. when Brandy Copeland, 26, of Elkridge, on a TaoTao motorized scooter was struck by a box truck in the westbound lane of Business Parkway.

Copeland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Through preliminary investigation, police believe the Copeland was traveling on Roosevelt Boulevard and pulled out onto Business Parkway without stopping at the stop sign.

She crossed the eastbound lane and was struck in the westbound lane. It is unclear if she was driving straight through the intersection or trying to make a left turn.

Investigators do not believe the driver of the box truck was speeding. He has been identified as Travis Ashbury, 27, of Silver Spring. He was not injured.

No charges have been filed.

TaoTao motorized scooters are legal to drive on Maryland roadways.
