Casey Stern on the Orioles and Young Talent

Casey Stern of MLB Network joined the "Glenn Younes Show" on Monday to discuss the Baltimore Orioles and the rest of Major League Baseball. Amongst the center of discussion were Kevin Gausman and the Orioles need for a front line starter. Casey believes that what Gausman showed against the Tigers in his home debut, could lead to the Orioles future number one starter. "The Orioles need Gausman to step up more than he needs him to step up. But they need him to step up now."

Then Glenn and Casey moved on to reflect on the trade of August 2011 in which the Orioles received Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter in return for now Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Koji Uehara. When Chris Davis was coming up through the Rangers system, he was highly regarded as a top prospect in all of Major League Baseball. He made his debut with the Rangers in the 2008 and finally saw significant playing time in their pennant season of 2011. Casey explained why the Rangers were so willing to get rid of him. "They just couldn't wait. The team was ready to win now and they couldn't wait for him to figure out his problems."

The conversation then shifted to Davis' incredible performance at the plate and how his performance has drastically improved already eclipsing the 20 home run mark in May. A lot of it appears to be that Chris is getting a lot of time at first base. Casey simply put it like this "If their happy in the field they're happy at the plate."
Glenn and Casey also touched on Manny Machado and the rest of the American League.
