Memorial Honors HoCo Blogger Whose Daughter Allegedly Plotted His Murder

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — Heartbreaking moments for the fiancee of a prominent Howard County businessman fatally stabbed in his home. Now she speaks for the first time about the night police say his teenage daughter plotted to kill him–and tried to kill her too.

Kai Jackson has the emotional words from Tuesday night’s memorial.

Howard County police continue investigating Dennis Lane’s murder. As they do, loved ones remember a man who wanted to make his community better.

Dennis Lane’s murder rocked the Howard County community where he was a fixture.

“He definitely was somebody whose opinion made a difference in this county,” said one resident.

The 58-year-old businessman and well-known blogger was stabbed to death inside his Ellicott City home. It happened on the morning of May 10. Howard County police charged 19-year-old Jason Bulmer with stabbing Lane to death but say Lane’s own daughter, 14-year-old Morgan Arnold, plotted the murder. Police say she told Bulmer, her boyfriend, to stab her father 10 times in the throat.

In Columbia on Tuesday, family and friends held a memorial service for Dennis Lane at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

“The only thing worse than death is to be forgotten, and Dennis will not be forgotten,” said his sister, Barbara Sandusky.

Denise Geiger was Lane’s fiancee. Investigators say she was also a target. She was with him when he was murdered but managed to get out of the house.

“I never got to say ‘I love you,’ or to hold him one last time,” Geiger said.

“It’s a tribute to Dennis to see everybody here, knowing that he made a huge difference,” said Howard County Executive Ken Ulman.

Ulman says it’s fitting that the memorial service for Dennis Lane was held at Merriweather Post Pavilion because he says Lane was instrumental in preserving it.

Jason Bulmer and Morgan Arnold were students at Mt. Hebron High. Both have been charged as adults.
