Mark Zinno: Ravens Say Goodbye To Vonta Leach
Mark Zinno with Aaron Wilson
Ravens beat writer Aaron Wilson joined Zinno to discuss fullback Vonta Leach, who is expected to be cut on Tuesday by the team. Leach was slated to make over $4 million next season, which is a high cap number. Many people thought this was expected, even Leach. "He wanted to know from Ozzie (Newsome) where he stood with the organization. They made a commitment to each other to try and work something out. When they negotiated, the numbers didn't work for either side," said Wilson.
Both Zinno and Wilson agree that this may hurt the Ravens. Wilson said, "I think it's going to be a loss. When he's out there, he leaves an impact on the defense. Linebackers are intimidated by this guy." The Ravens will turn to rookie fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who they drafted in the 4th round to take over Leach's role.
Overall, there was no bad blood in this separation. Wilson said, "It's not about respect or hard feelings or anything like that. They like Vonta a lot. He likes the organization. They part as friends. It's unfortunate that it couldn't be worked out."
